Who should do this course?

This course is for rural retail staff who are likely to be working in a customer-facing role in an agrichemical retail store and are advising others on the safe use of agrichemicals. They may have responsibility for managing a bulk storage facility on site.

  • be able to advise customers on the safe use of agrichemicals including storage and transport.

Course content

The Supplier programme consists of three modules:

  1. Retail supply
    Covering storage in particular, this module covers the requirements of Certified Handler for agrichemicals and other common hazardous substances in store. Transport responsibilities and legal responsibilities relating to the sale of products are also covered.
  2. Knowledge of agrichemicals
    Key learning outcomes of this module are an understanding of mode of action, formulation, environmental degradation and the role of adjuvants.
  3. Planning and application
    This module focuses on the comprehensive understanding of key sources of information including spray plans, labels and other sources of product information. Topics such as resistance management and nozzle selection are covered in terms of their relevance to label recommendations.

Prerequisites

The Growsafe Standard certificate is a prerequisite for this course along with current employment in a retail store selling agrichemicals.

Assessment requirements

There is a written assessment foreach module including the application of knowledge to your own place of work. Assessment for Module 1 requires a site visit, third party assessment or substantial photographic evidence. On successful completion of all three modules and associated practical requirements, you will be awarded the Growsafe Agrichemical Supplier certificate.

How to renew

A Growsafe Agrichemical Supplier certificate is valid for 5 years, at which time it must be renewed. This is because laws, technology and best practice are constantly changing. While you can read and hear about these changes yourself, your customers and the regulators require evidence that you are up-to-date. Renewal of your certificate must be done within 6 months of expiry. Your Certified Handler certificate can be renewed at the same time.

Certified Handler

If you have met the competence requirements, you will also achieve the Certified Handler Test Certificate for bulk storage and/or retail supply of agrichemicals.
