Cleaning your PPE

Cleaning PPE after use is a bit more complicated than you might imagine.

Think about what is clean and what is dirty.  Your objective is to minimise the contamination of clean items. This includes any vehicle you are travelling in, the laundry area where you wash your clothes, the bottom of your shoes and boots, the inside of your gloves, the tap and hose you use, and of course yourself - your skin and eyes and lungs. The higher the toxicity of the product you used, the more important it is to avoid cross-contamination. For example, you may wish to use soapy water for cleaning up rather than just water, or put the eye protection back on after cleaning it, to avoid any splashes in the eye while you clean the rest of your PPE.

This video shows one way to clean your PPE.  This may not be practical in your situation - for example, you may be out in the bush and not have access to a hose. However, you must plan ahead and think about how you are going to change out of your spray gear and clean up - bring some water with you for washing your hands and face, a plastic bucket for your gear etc.
